Get to Know Me

Wife, mama to two boys, professional photographer, cookbook collector, and pasta enthusiast.

I'm Jessica

hi, there!

I set out to try out a TikTok trend (for the record, I’m not even on TikTok), but ended up creating these instead. I imagine pouring a glass of wine and serving these up for the perfect aperitif before dinner with friends, or alone, or ya know, any ol’ time at all.

What I really love about these is you can get as creative as you want! Leave ingredients out, put way more in, play with different flavor combinations, but the easy process of making these will always stay the same. I’m already dreaming up sweet versions and a variety of savory versions. What combination of flavors would you choose?

The recipe is below and you can also find a short video of the process at the link here: https://www.instagram.com/p/CsZVZ0HugtK/

Cook Time20 minutes
Course: Appetizer, Snack
Servings: 6 servings
Author: Jessica McCalla

Equipment

  • 1 baking sheet
  • parchment paper

Ingredients

  • 1 sheet frozen puff pastry thawed
  • Balsamic vinegar
  • 1 Shallot thinly sliced
  • Salt
  • 4 oz Goat cheese
  • Honey
  • Fresh thyme leaves
  • 1 Egg beaten
  • Balsamic glaze

Instructions

  • Preheat oven to 375℉. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  • Roll out puff pastry sheet onto a lightly floured surface and cut into 6 rectangles. Place each rectangle onto the baking sheet.
  • Leaving a 1/4” border, make a rectangular slit in each pastry.
  • Brush or drizzle the entire rectangle with balsamic vinegar.
  • Lay the sliced shallots over the smaller rectangle and sprinkle with salt.
  • Fill the center rectangle with goat cheese, drizzle with honey and sprinkle fresh thyme leaves over the top (Don't worry if you go over the slits with your ingredients, you can't mess this up!)
  • Brush the edges of each puff pastry with egg wash.
  • Bake at 375℉ for 18-20 minutes, until the pastry is golden.
  • Remove from oven and drizzle balsamic glaze over each puff pastry.
  • Enjoy!
